June 29

Big Top / TICKETED
6:30PM

Radha Jetty is passionate about dancing.  She has been performing the Indian classical dance form called Bharatha Natyam since the age of five.  She has performed extensively in Canada, the US and India.  In 2006, she spent a three-month sabbatical in India, where she undertook full-time studies in Bharatha Natyam technique, theory, history and rhythm training with well known gurus.  She was one of the founders and choreographers of the Montreal-based dance collective, Ekatva, that showcased Samsaara: rebirth of a woman in July 2006.  In 2007, she presented a one-woman show titledSwaralaya in Ottawa where she used her dancing as a voice for social change in her feature piece titled “A Mother’s Plea”.   Last year, Radha presented her work for the first time in Iqaluit at her show “Rhythmes de l’Inde”.  Radha will present some of her latest choreography along with an experimental piece with Iqaluit drummers Andrew Gilbutowicz and Mike Mifflin.

Radha’s passion translates into her career as a pediatrician.  She now calls Iqaluit home as she works as the region’s full time pediatrician based at the Qikiqtani general hospital.

Watch her perform the intricate footwork, hand gestures and facial expressions that are characteristic of this 2000-year old art form.
