Sweet Ptarmageddon is comprised of Emily Woods and Katie Hunter, who will be joined in this debut performance by Iqaluit musicians Mark McCormack, Rob Aube and Seth Reinhart. Detroit-born singer Emily Woods’ developed a love for jazz as a wee girl when she would sing along as her father played soprano sax. Emily began performing in clubs and bars in her early teens. Since she moved to Iqaluit in 2006, she’s been active in the local music scene, singing jazz, blues and most recently, R&B, as well as lending a helping hand organizing musical events, including the Alianait Arts Festival.
Katie Hunter began taking classical piano lessons in Vancouver at the age of six and studied into her late teens. She later attended the music program in Nelson BC where she met her piano mentor and close friend, Glennn Mitchell. Katie began studying exclusively with Glennn, and playing R&B and blues with musicians from the college. After moving to Iqaluit last year, she has had the pleasure of meeting and playing with a growing group of wonderful musicians.
